Pearl Jam – Yield (25th Anniversary Edition)

“Yield” is Pearl Jam’s 5th studio album and remains one of my favorite releases from them. Released in February of 1998, Vinyl Me Please (VMP) did an excellent job with the 25th Anniversary pressing. I ordered the album from them as soon as it was announced in February of 2023, and it finally arrived in October of the same year. It was definitely worth the wait.

The artwork on the album stays true to the original CD I own, but the quality has been greatly improved. The colors and resolution of the images are vivid and detailed, making the original CD’s cardboard case seem dull. I was never a fan of cardboard CD cases, but I understand why the change was made. The records themselves look stunning in a translucent red with crisp labeling.

The VMP site was somewhat vague about these pressings when I initially ordered them, so it was a nice surprise to find out they play at 45rpm. Not only does this make them more unique, but cutting at 45rpm should allow more of the master’s information to be stored on the record. The sound quality of this pressing is fantastic, not just because of the 45rpm speed, but also because they spread the music over 4 sides, avoiding the dreaded inner groove distortion.

Overall, I highly recommend this release if you are a Pearl Jam fan. While the price is at the upper limit for a record in my book, this one was worth every penny to me.
